Black Stars: I worked three times harder after Sudan defeat – Otto Addo

Black Stars head coach, Otto Addo, has revealed that he has stepped up his efforts after Ghana’s defeat to Sudan in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in October.

A 2-0 loss to Kwasi Appiah’s team in Libya means Ghana is at risk of not qualifying for the AFCON for the first time in 21 years, when the tournament is held in Morocco.

Otto Addo’s Black Stars are yet to win a game in the 2025 AFCON qualifying series.

After naming a 25-man squad for the final two games against Angola and Sudan, Addo spoke about the work he has been doing since the away defeat and the home draw against Sudan.

“For me, I will always do my best, and after the last loss [against Sudan], I even worked three times harder, you know,” the former Borussia Dortmund Talent Coach told reporters.

“And maybe to give you just an insight, surely my wife is not happy because I was not at home, surely.

“But this is life, you know; sometimes you have to work even more, even harder, to achieve what you want to do.”

Ghana is set to face Angola on Friday, November 15, 2024, at the Estádio 11 de Novembro in Luanda.

Three days later, the Black Stars will host Niger in their final qualifying match at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, November 18.

Ghana currently sits third in Group F with two points from four games, five points behind second-placed Sudan and ten points behind Angola, who sit at the top of the group.

Qualification is entirely out of the Black Stars’ hands. To qualify, Ghana must win its remaining games and hope Sudan loses theirs.

A draw for Sudan would mean Ghana will not qualify for the AFCON for the first time in 20 years.
