Mikel Arteta opens up on Thomas Partey’s Arsenal contract situation

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has opened up about Thomas Partey’s contract situation at the club amid praise for his versatility.

The Spaniard stated that the 31-year-old has excelled in adapting to different positions as the Gunners continue to struggle with injuries.

Partey has started as a right-back in two of the nine Premier League games Arsenal has played this season and has also been moved to that position during matches.

Speaking about Partey’s contract, which is set to expire this coming summer, Arteta was full of praise for the former Atletico Madrid midfielder.

“The one thing we needed was for Thomas to be at the level we wanted,” Arteta  on Friday ahead of Arsenal’s game against Newcastle on Saturday.

While Arsenal initially planned to let Partey finish his contract without an extension, his recent performances could lead to a reconsideration.

Partey has also been linked with clubs like Barcelona and Juventus, but his experience may be crucial for the squad’s depth in the 2025/26 season.
